Interests: I've been employed at The Post and Courier
newspaper in Charleston, South Carolina since 1986. From 1986 until 1990,
I wrote feature stories. From 1990 until 1995, I covered crime and courts.
In the fall of 1995, I helped develop and launch a website for the newspaper.
I served as webmaster from 1995 until early 2003, when the newspaper began
using an outside firm to host and manage the site. In 2005, I moved to
the newspaper's Information Services department, where I managed e-mail
servers and assisted the network administrator. In 2008, I moved back into working on the newspaper's website, postandcourier.com. In October
2009, I moved back into the newsroom, as a reporter on the crime beat.
And in 2011, I moved back into the Web side of things, working as a Web editor on the digital desk.
Have I figured out what I want to be when I grow up? No. But it's fun to keep trying new things!
In my spare time I enjoy fiddling with my computer at home.
I also enjoy reading, relaxing
and watching television. Now that I've stopped smoking, I am eating too much. I hope to develop a health exercise routine to burn off some of this weight. My wife, Kathy
, enjoys gardening, handicrafts (crochet) and is an avid garage sale bargain hunter. We
are members of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church in Charleston, S.C. Our daughter
Lacey Buff,
29, works as a manager of an upscale hair salon in Charleston.
Our daughter, Jennifer Oxenford
, 40, lives in Landsdowne, PA, where she is applications coordinator for
MAGPI, the regional organization that provides
Internet2 connectivity for schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
Jennifer is also an IT Project Leader at the University of Pennsylvania.
Jennifer and her husband Jim have two children, our granddaughters, Sophia and Emily.
My parents, Howard "Mac" and Marge MacDougall,
grew up and lived in southern New Jersey until 1976, when they moved to
Charleston. In 1994, they returned to New Jersey until August 2002, when
they moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. In July 2008, my father died after a long illness. My mother still lives in Scottsdale and is using my dad's
e-mail address.
My brother, Steven,
is a Lutheran minister in Prairie, Illinois. My sister, Joyce Schrank,
has raised three children in Phoenix, Arizona, where her husband, Jeff, is a Lutheran minister. In August of 2012, my mother moved in with my sister and her husband in Phoenix.
